Achievements:
Originally a civil engineer, Bruce has had a very varied career in government in both Queensland and the Commonwealth. He has over 20 years experience as Chief Executive of a number of Queensland Departments, serving governments of all persuasions, and with responsibilities covering transport, land management, works and services, trade and public service reform.
Along the way Bruce has worked very closely with the private sector and has chaired a large number of state and national entities. Bruce was Chief Executive of Queensland Transport for over 12 years from late 1995 and his achievements included the TransLink initiative for integrated public transport in south east Queensland, development of the Brisbane busway network, major innovations in road, rail and maritime safety, the large expansion of rail and port capacity for the export coal industry, and the roll-out of on-line customer services.
From July 2008, Bruce was appointed Chief Executive (Special Projects). His first assignment was as Commissioner and Commission Chief Executive to lead teh development of a new Public Service Commission charged with modernising and renewing the Queensland Public Service.
He has been awarded the Centenary Medal and appointed a Member of the Order of Australia.
