Certified CEO
The CEO Institute is the certifying body for candidates seeking the Certified CEO designation. The certification is a mark of respect and a reason for pride.
The designation of CCEO provides professional recognition of a business leader's:
- high level of knowledge
- experience as a CEO (or equivalent)
- commitment to ongoing professional development
CEO certification sets the gold standard for business leaders.
EXPERENTIAL OR ACADEMIC PATHWAY TO CEO DESIGNATION?
In accordance with the Rules for Certification an experiential pathway to CEO certification is awarded to Fellows (attained after 5 years of continuous membership) of The CEO Institute:
- who have attended a minimum of 55 meetings of The CEO SyndicateŽ program, and
- are a financial member of The CEO SyndicateŽ program to fulfil ongoing professional development obligations after certification, and
- have a minimum of five (5) years' experience as a Chief Executive Officer or equivalent position.
Experiential learning through active participation in The CEO SyndicateŽ program is acknowledged to have equipped the membership to address business challenges with greater confidence and knowledge. Members' professional development is influenced by exceptional peer-group mentoring with leading edge business thinking, competent Syndicate Chairman and access to Expert Resource Speakers acclaimed for their expertise in business and leadership.
Being awarded the full certification of the Certified CEO designation grants the right to use the post nominal, CCEO, as well as a very exclusive status in the business community.
Members with less than five (5) years' experience as a Chief Executive Officer (or equivalent position) have the right to use the post nominal CCEO (prov).
Mt Eliza Executive Education (part of the Melbourne Business School) has been appointed by The CEO Institute as the Authorised Educational Institution in Australia to deliver the knowledge component or academic pathway of the Certification Course for the Australasian region. Participants in specific executive education programs or courses conducted by Mt Eliza Executive Education shall be eligible for the Certified CEO designation. The learning model that will be used in the academic pathway is adapted from the work of Stuart Hart and Mark Milstein from Cornell University, USA as depicted below.

The academic pathway encompasses four distinct modules of learning (refer to diagram above):
Module 1 - Growth Path & Trajectory
Managing tomorrow's opportunities: Shows you how to set a shared vision of the Future for Growth.
Module 2 - Innovation & Repositioning
Being the effective leader: Demonstrates that an effective CEO must foster leadership and talent and how this must become your legacy and eventual liberty.
Module 3 - Cost & Risk Reduction
Managing today's business: Crucial if you want to learn how to make decisive change to how your organisation is operating.
Module 4 - Reputation & Legitimacy:
Engaging external constituencies: Focuses on your negotiation, presentation and crisis management skills.
Sucessfully completeing the Certification Course and the 3 assessments shall fulfil the knowledge component of the Rules for Certification, but additional criteria must also be met before receiving the Certified CEO designation.
