Achievements:
In his early career as a Civil Engineer, Chris Michelmore was responsible for the structural design of a range of significant construction projects carried out in South Australia, including many high-rise buildings in the Adelaide CBD. Moving to Hong Kong in 1981, he was jointly responsible with the local Managing Director for the management of a fifty-person consulting practice, undertaking civil and structural engineering projects in Hong Kong, southern China and Singapore.
In the late eighties, after returning to Australia, Chris assumed responsibility for the operations of the multi-discipline consulting firm Connell Wagner in its Central West region (South Australia, Western Australia, Northern Territory), building that sector of the business from 70 to 350 personnel with an annual regional turnover of $40M - by the time of his retirement from the firm in 2007.
In the period 1996 to 2007 Chris was a Group Director of Connell Wagner, chaired the Human Resources Committee, and led the development of the firm’s Risk Management strategies and procedures including a a major review and upgrade of its Operations System. During this period the firm significantly diversified and expanded its national and international operations; by 2007 it employed 3500 personnel, generating an annual income of $400M.
Chris is now a non-executive director (Chairing the Remuneration Committee) of Monadelphous Pty Ltd, a publicly listed company based in Perth, which has operations throughout Australia. The firm employs just over 5000 personnel and has an annual revenue in excess of $1Billion, in which income is derived largely from heavy construction and maintenance works for the resources sector.
